We bring partners and city leaders together through a collective impact model to remove systemic barriers to health and prosperity in San Francisco.
HOPE SF’s principles were established in collaboration with the community in 2007. Since then, the initiative has evolved and adopted a set of aspirational values that guide our work and ensure that residents are centered every step of the way.
Acknowledge and repair harms experienced by BIPOC communities and perpetuated by people in positions of power (largely white). Advance antiracism within institutions, systems, and policies with the goal of sparking and sustaining healing and freedom for those who have suffered from racialized harm and those who have benefited from this harm.
Ensure that we don’t trigger trauma by learning from the historical harm of past policies. We endeavor to provide reliable services in a safe environment, build a culture of self-determination and inclusivity, and celebrate community resiliency.
We incorporate open and inclusive forms of participation and deliberation to ensure that legacy families maintain close connections with — and thrive in — the new communities.
By constructing homes in phases, original public housing residents are able to remain on site, minimizing displacement.
Resident voice and vision drives decisions for HOPE SF.
Analyzing and disaggregating data on a regular basis helps inform decisions and ensure that we advance racial and economic equity.
HOPE SF launched with a set of guiding principles that includes: ensure no loss of public housing, maximize the creation of new affordable housing, create environmentally sustainable and accessible communities, and more.

We explicitly acknowledge the systemic harm that government agencies have disproportionately inflicted on low-income communities of color throughout the centuries. We seek to recognize this harm, build trust, and work with communities to realize the vision of HOPE SF.
